Abstract/Clarity of Idea


An adventure game, adapted from the Indian epic 'Ramayana'. This game changes the nature of Wayang Kulit (being 2D, and shadow puppetry) to 3D, with exaggerated animations and expressions. The game starts with Sita, Rama's wife, being kidnapped by Ravana, the King of Lanka. Rama then goes off to save Sita.

The story Ramayana has been adapted multiple times in the Kelantan/Indonesian Wayang Kulit

Goal/Problem Statement

     1.   What is the goal of the application?

Traditional Wayang Kulit puppets are flat. In the traditional shadow puppet shows, only the music and Dalang's (the puppet master) voice and his control of the puppets can be changed to portray emotions and actions throughout the story. This doesn't give much credit to the characters of these puppets, as usually their characters have exaggerated emotions/powers. 


      2.   What is the application trying to solve?

To give Wayang Kulit's puppets more emotions/characters to their physical form. Oh, and also appreciate the Hindu epic 'Ramayana'.


     3.   What is the advantage of VR than can enhance project.
Making the puppets 3D, will give the puppets themselves the emotions that their characters carry. Doing that physically in the real world, might offend the culture and would probably make the group of people who still do/go for the traditional shows..angry. Doing these kinds of changes using a VR application would not hurt as much, as the younger generation who perhaps might not have heard of Wayang Kulit will be exposed to it in the virtual world, 

    4.   Is this project new or has it been created before? If yes, why are you doing it again?
Unless Google made a mistake of not having this kind of project in its list, then yeah I think it's new? But of course, we've heard of those 2D games that turned 3D...Super Mario, Prince of Persia, Pac Man...Donkey Kong.

  • gives emotions/look that justify the characters of the Wayang Kulit puppets
  • introduce a virtually revamped version of Wayang Kulit to the younger generation
  • appreciate the Indian epic Ramayana

Level Description

     1.   Description of application

Game starts with menu, navigation controls info. The game has 2 levels, the first one will be about getting Rama to Lanka, which will require player to build a causeway from Ahdoya all the way to Lanka and kill enemies (Ravana's army that are sent to stop Rama). The second one will be about the battle between Rama and Ravana. 

    2. What will happen in levels

Level 1, at first, player will have to build a causeway to Lanka from Ahdoya, by getting help from a monkey named Nala. Player will have to find Nala, which then asks the rest of the monkeys to help with the bridge.

Level 2, player will arrive at Ravana's palace, kill all of Ravana's army and challenge Ravana in order to save Sita. 

    3.   How will users interact with the application
Joystick/Keyboard controls.


Interaction Description


  • changing weapon (axe/bow & arrows)
  • drag and drop objects
  • fire bow at enemies
  • collect 'power' that comes out from random enemies bodies to make combo attack on Ravana.
